Vienna Psychoanalytic Society (WPV)
The Vienna Psychoanalytic Society (WPV) was founded by Siegmund Freud in 1908. It was the world’s first psychoanalytical organisation and a founding member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA).
In 2008, the organisation’s 100th anniversary, the society is sending a clear signal in the direction of dynamic, future, developments and has opened a new Vienna psychoanalytic centre at Salzgries 16, containing the psychoanalytical academy and treatment rooms for the psychoanalytical outpatient unit, as well as office space used by the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society and Wiener Arbeitskreis Psychoanalyse (WAP).
The result of the successful cooperation between the institutions was the creation of a Vienna Psychoanalytical Academy in December 2006. The academy is a public centre for psychoanalysis and its application and forms an institutional framework for communications and research tasks, inter-disciplinary exchange and project cooperation.
communication matters assists the WPV with its media work.
