KATER-II-Konferenz (2006)
KATER II Conference from 9th to 11th October 2006 in Vienna
Cross-border EU research on the conserving of valuable drinking water areas
Thirty-five percent of Europe’s drinking water comes from karst regions. Karst is a type of terrain where rainfall is filtered through natural rock, making it suitable for drinking. About 95% of the drinking water in Vienna comes from karst areas in Lower Austria and Styria. The EU research project ``KATER II´´ (KArst waTER research program) is being conducted by Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia as this type of water supply forms an important part of Europe’s drinking water system. It is being coordinated by Wiener Wasserwerke (the City of Vienna Water Works). Around 400 participants will discuss the latest research findings and make presentations as part of the KATER II conference from 9th to 11th October this year. The conference is being held at the ballroom of Vienna City Hall.
communication matters will sensitise the general public to this subject before the conference with its public relations work and will inform the Viennese population about the findings of the international meeting during the event.
