Communicating scientific topics to a broad public was the main issue of the first national Austrian citizens’ conference: “Genetic Data: where from, where to, why?”
The Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development uses the model of participative technology assessment to increase awareness for the use of innovations.

Jury Statement

    

The balanced dialogue between the experts involved and the laymen represented in the citizens’ panel made it possible to develop a mutual position on the controversial topic of “genetic data”. This is an interesting communications tool to enable and further open dialogue, especially when dealing with socially controversial positions.
